AZERBAIJAN Summit Bazarduzu and the remote Caucasus
17 to 25 June 2027 | Mixed group
Most people go to the Caucasus to look at mountains. You're going to climb one.
7 days trekking from Baku 4466 m, the highest point in Azerbaijan 4 to 4.5 out of 5 difficulty
WHY SAY YES?
Seven days. One relentless, ridiculous, brilliant week. It starts with a walk through villages so remote they still measure distance in mountain passes rather than miles, and ends on top of Azerbaijan itself, 4466 metres up, with half of Dagestan spread out beneath you.
In between, you will sleep in a tent on the mountain's doorstep, eat dinner in kitchens that have fed shepherds for centuries, and walk further in a week than most people manage in a month.
Type two fun, guaranteed. Bragging rights, permanent.
It is hard, and we will not pretend otherwise. The terrain is rugged, the days are long and the altitude makes you earn every metre. But it is the kind of hard that has you laughing halfway up a scree slope, swapping stories over dinner with people who have never left these mountains, and standing on a summit wondering why you ever thought you could not.
READ THIS BIT TWICE: A TRULY REMOTE EXPEDITION
This is one of the most remote trips we run. Azerbaijan's high Caucasus sits right on the Russian border, far from towns, hospitals and home comforts. That is exactly what makes it special, but you need to come prepared.
Off grid: Phone signal is patchy at best. Let family know you may be out of contact for days at a time.
Far from help: Our guides carry first aid, but evacuation can take many hours. Good fitness and the right insurance really matter.
Border country: Permits are needed, so we need your passport scan at least 20 days before departure.
Simple living: Homestays are basic, with communal facilities. Expect genuine hospitality rather than hot showers.
Weather rules: The lead guide makes all weather and safety calls, and the mountain always gets the final say.
Cash only: There are no cash machines in the villages. Bring enough Azerbaijani manat from Baku for the whole trek.
Shadi or a Team GC representative is with you throughout, as on every trip we run, alongside professional local mountain guides.
