Mother & Daughter Atlas Mountains Trek (May Half Term 2027)

Our Annual Fundraiser for Imagine This Charity

This May half term, swap screens, busy schedules, and everyday routines for something far more meaningful five unforgettable days in the High Atlas Mountains, created especially for mothers and daughters (girls aged 14+) who want to spend real, uninterrupted time together.

This trip is our annual fundraising expedition for Imagine This, bringing families together for an adventure that is as purposeful as it is memorable.

There are no distractions here just shared adventure, fresh mountain air, and the kind of conversations that naturally unfold when you’re walking side by side through landscapes far bigger than yourselves.

Your journey takes place in Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains, home to North Africa’s highest peak, Mount Toubkal (4,167m), and a network of ancient Amazigh (Berber) footpaths that have connected mountain communities for generations. While we won’t be summiting Toubkal, we’ll explore quieter valleys and traditional villages between 1,800 and 2,500 metres routes once used by shepherds and traders. These trails offer the perfect mix of challenge, safety, and cultural immersion, making them ideal for families looking for an adventure beyond the ordinary.

Along the way, you’ll stay in small mountain villages built from the region’s distinctive red clay, offering a rare glimpse into Amazigh daily life. Evenings are spent in simple, welcoming guesthouses, enjoying home-cooked Moroccan meals think vegetable tagines, lentils, and freshly baked bread while mornings begin with the calm silence of the mountains. The landscape is dotted with walnut groves, terraced fields, and stone pathways that have linked communities for centuries.

The days are active. Trails can be rocky and occasionally steep, and mountain weather can change quickly a reminder that the Atlas is a true mountain environment. A reasonable level of fitness helps, but the journey is just as much about encouragement, teamwork, and taking each step together. Many families find that overcoming the physical challenge becomes one of the most powerful bonding experiences of the trip.

A highlight for many is the deeper cultural connection. The High Atlas is home to Morocco’s Indigenous Amazigh communities, who have lived in these mountains for thousands of years. Throughout the expedition, you’ll gain insight into their traditions, hospitality, and way of life — a genuine cultural experience far removed from typical tourism.

By travelling away from the busier trekking routes and onto quieter mountain paths, the journey creates space to walk, talk, reflect, and reconnect. In just a few days, many families find their pace, perspective, and priorities shift in the best possible way.

This expedition is ideal for:

• Mothers and daughters wanting intentional time together during the May half-term

• Girls aged 14+ who enjoy being active and outdoors

• Families looking for a meaningful challenge rather than a luxury holiday

• Those curious about culture, community, and life in Morocco’s mountain regions

Expect breathtaking views, shared achievements, and stories you’ll still be talking about long after school starts again.

It’s not a comfort-seeking holiday but it is the kind of adventure that creates memories you’ll both carry for years.
